When applied to the tooth, hydrogen peroxide breaks down into water and radical hydroxyl ions. As these ions work their way through the dentinal tubules and into the tooth, they attach themselves to stain particles and effectively breaks the stains apart.
With intrinsic stains (those stains on the inside of the tooth) and extrensic stains (those stains on the outside of the tooth) removed, teeth will appear whiter and brighter.
To our knowledge, nothing detrimental has been documented. Also, microscopic research shows no changes to the tooth’s surface. There is no literature that we’ve come across that shows any structural changes or irreversible damage to the tooth surface whatsoever.
The LED Teeth Whitening treatment consists of 2-3, 15 minute applications of whitening gel or light.
Teeth Whitening is not permanent. People who expose their teeth to foods and beverages that cause staining may see the whiteness start to fade in as little as a month. Those who avoid foods and beverages that stain may be able to wait one year or longer before another whitening treatment or touch-up is needed.
There is no evidence to date that the teeth whitening process has harmful effects on the health of a tooth’s nerve.
It is inevitable that someone is going to accidentally swallow a bit of whitening gel from time to time. It may irritate your soft tissue areas or make you feel a bit queasy, but it won’t harm you.
There have been no confirmed studies done to determine whether it’s safe or not. It is wise not to undergo any teeth whitening treatments without speaking to your doctor first.
Blue-gray staining caused by tetracycline is more difficult to lighten and may require several treatments to successfully lighten but results can still be reached.
